It is the story of a man addicted to internet chatting. It had become a way of life for him. He discovers to his mortification that…..

He was now going to café…!

Chatting was difficult at home. Nazma too had begun to evince interest. He would be on the net and would get irritated; Nazma on one pretext or the other would walk in and fix her eyes on the screen. That day she even made a query, “What that Lady Diana 2000 is saying?” He had at once signed out. He was then in the Lovers’ Lane and was having sex chatting with Lady Diana 2000. Nazma had made no further query and he felt relieved that she had not been able to understand the reality of this chatting.

He used to visit café earlier also. He got into this habit of chatting there itself. But he never felt free there. It was particularly difficult to enjoy the port site. People kept coming and going and someone or the other would peep in to see if the cabin was free. The café owner too would knock every hour and this killed the joy of it all. At long last he bought a computer and got internet connected. But now Nazma…

Initially, Nazma had no interest in computers. When she was a student of BA she got married.

She was an efficient house wife and liked to remain indoors. When computer came, she showed no interest as such…was just happy to note that a new thing had arrived in the home. But when net was connected and when it became possible to talk to bhaijaan (elder brother) in America, she was taken aback. She was particularly surprised that someone across the seven seas should type something there and that thing should be viewed on screen here. It made her all the happier that now talking in America will cost almost nothing compared to telephone bills.

When Nazma evinced some interest, he acquainted her with some of the technical aspects.

“It is so very easy to work on a computer, Nazma…all you need to know is how to open and how to shut it down”

 “And chatting…?”

“Chatting is still more easy. For that you’ll have to be on the net.”

He showed her how to switch on the computer. “First put the battery on and this is the computer button…press it…that’s all…the computer is on…but you must not press the button to switch off the computer….it’s to be ‘shut down’…and it’s method is…this is ‘mouse’…if you move it, the cursor will move…”
