Whether you’re a boyfriend hoping to impress or a novice collector, this article will give you everything you need to know about the symbolism of candles.
Candles have long been used for decorative purposes. In addition, many people choose them over spray type air fresheners. I will be commenting on candle colours and scents in this article.
Colours
Most people are rather flexible when considering the meaning of different colours of candles. For instance, white candles are typically used at weddings to symbolize purity, but they may also be burned at home on a side table where they will discreetly fragrance the air without being overly bright and distracting. A deep red is nice on a dark, mahogany table top, and to most women it is the colour of passion and desire. Blues and greens look nice in a bathroom where the colour is reminiscent of ocean spray. Of course they double as an odour combatant as well. You can’t go wrong with a pink candle on Valentine’s Day, and that special touch can make all the difference in your bedroom’s ambiance! Orange and yellow are the colours of fall and harvest and they make me think of cornucopias and pumpkin pie.
Scents
Have you ever walked into a house that was somewhat dishevelled but smelled like an apple pie? You liked that house, right? The magic is in the scent. Vanilla has a nice clean smell which works to freshen up the air in your laundry room, bathroom or kitchen. Obvious food scents are most appropriate in the kitchen, and some scents are even specific to certain times of the year. Cinnamon and Spruce are nice during the winter holidays. Lavender, rose, and jasmine are romantic scents. Keep couple of these candles in a drawer in your bedroom to create a perfect moment.
Now it’s your turn. You can use candles to turn your house into a sensual getaway, a jungle tree fort, or ‘Ma’s Kitchen’. Browse a speciality shop or a farmers market to find unique or homemade candles to suit your purposes. Good luck!
