About a little village somewhere in Africa.
THE VILLAGE.
Once upon a time, there lived a family in a village called Karibi. This family consisted of Mr. Stephen, Mrs.Stephen, Mike, Morris and their little sister Angela. This family was very close and they loved each other very much.
Each morning as the children prepared to go to school, their mother would make their favorite breakfast pancakes and milk. They would get ready and say their good-byes and head off to school. Now their father Mr. Stephen was a doctor and worked at the local hospital called The Karibi Hospital. He was a surgeon and would operate on his patient, so sometime he would even stay at the hospital the whole night. On the other hand Mrs Stephen was a house-wife and a farmer. She was in charge of the household and the animals and the farm. She was very hard working and she had some help from some young men whom she had employed to assist her with the farm. They were active young men and were never lazy at any time. She paid their dues on time and thus they continued to work for her. She was also a chairlady of a woman’s group in the village which assisted the less fortunate families.
Their children Mike, was good in sports and he loved playing football, he was also involved in the youth projects of the village, Morris loved music and you could not miss him at the annual music festivals, weddings and general meetings of the village entertaining the people, Angela just loved to cook up new dishes as she was often to be found in the kitchen.
For some time the village had good weather and had never witnessed any sign of famine or drought, but it so happened that for some few months since the start of the year, there was no rain in the village of Karibi, and the people started looking for water all over even in the other villages, they also started to dig up wells and life started to change in the once silent and peaceful village. People would even start stealing food crop from their neighbors’ farm. This caused a lot of hatred among the villagers. There was also the habit of stealing even the farm animals and selling them to get money to buy this precious commodity called water. Now in the hospital where Mr. Stephen used to work, it was really bad, because the patients needed water and for a hospital to lack water it was bad. The nurses, some of them went on strike and left some of the patients lying sick with no help. It was such a bad state and the town desperately needed help from the other towns and also from the government.
