If you learn from your failures, where is the shame?

Throughout life we are all going to have some type of failure. We won’t feel great about the failure whatever it is, but as long as we take some lesson from that failure and put that lesson to use, the experience should help us tremendously in the future.

If it is a business that you tried to get off the ground and was unsuccessful and had to give it up, that experience should be used in you next effort. The necessary capitalization is sometimes why new businesses fail, be sure you have adequate funds to stay afloat for the long run. A five year time span for a new business is about the time it takes for a break-even point. Plan well, get advice from those who have had successful business experience and be sure you have the reserves to keep going.

Other things that happen in life, you did not get the job you really wanted. Think about the fact that perhaps that job was not the one you would have prospered in? The next job you apply for might just be a better fit. Let the failure to obtain that job you did not get be a stepping stone to a better one. Be positive about your ability, you will succeed if you believe in yourself. Remember that failure can be a great impetus to success.

One of our greatest presidents failed at so many things during his life. He is thought of as one of our most effective presidents, he was an avid reader and basically self-educated. He lead the country through the most terrible internal crisis in the country’s history, the American Civil War, he also ended slavery. Prior to becoming President, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln suffered many failures of ambition.

In the year 1832 he was defeated for the position of state legislature, he tried to start a business in 1833 and that failed, he also was defeated for a nomination to Congress in 1843. He was defeated for speaker in 1838, in the year of 1849, he was rejected for the position of land officer and then Mr. Lincoln was defeated for the United States Senate in 1856.  He also lost his bid for the nomination as Vice-President in the year 1856 and was defeated once again for the U. S. Senate in 1858. He was elected as the United States President in 1860. Mr. Lincoln had some successes between his failures and rejections but  most of all he continued his pursuit of his goals, undaunted by the things that he was not able to accomplish along the way. Failure sort of became his friend to help him move on to his next successful goal.

So if you use failure as an impetus forward, to grow from it, you may find as many others have through their lives, including Mr. Lincoln that there is really no shame in failure, none at all.

Failure means that at least you tried and to me that is better than just sitting around dreaming and not acting.

Freethinking, So true, if you act, there is the possibility of succeeding, if you do not there is no possible way to have success. Thank you.

I like your reference to Abraham Lincoln, I don’t think everybody knows that but he did fall down a lot on his way to the president’s chair.

Hi there Heloni, thank you for your comment. I think Lincoln is a model for us all. Keep getting up. Take care.
