About overcoming fear, doubt and procrastination and trying something new.

This the first time that I am contributing any written content on the internet. I have thought about it for a long time, and even made a few attempts, but I have never followed through. I believe now is the time to take the plunge, sink or swim.

The main things that caused my reluctance were doubt and fear.  Fear is a natural human emotion, and in its less intimidating and crippling forms it presents itself as caution and skepticism which are both necessary for our self-preservation and safety. However, when caution and skepticism cause us to become so afraid that we are reluctant to try anything new then we have a problem. This type of fear, I believe is crippling and counter-productive, it kills the spirit of a person, sometimes slowly over time or with swift results.

What are we afraid of? Criticism, failure, making mistakes are just a few of the things that I feel have caused many of us to be hestitant to attempt new things. Nevertheless, these are the very things that could be motivators to help us to improve at whatever we are trying to do.

Another culprit which prevented me from launching out into the unknown world of writing online was procrastination. I procrastinated because it was safe, tomorrow was always the best day to start, but that day never came. It’s always sensible to make plans and set goals for the future, however we must begin to implement those plans in the present because that’s the time in which we live. So let’s go ahead and make our plans but we must be ready to start them in a time and on a day called today.

The old addage “The only thing to fear is fear itself” has proven to be true for me. Many of the fears that I had conjured up in my mind in the past had never manifested themselves in the real world. My encouragement to all who are like me is; take the plunge, make the effort beat the fear.
