Opinions made in a language arts honors course.

1.      Winter is a more beautiful time in Ogden because Ogden gets a lot of snow and it adds to the beauty that is already there.

2.      Teenagers are not as likely to get a job now that the economy is dropping. It is not fair to teens because they deserve a job just as much as any other adult does.

3.      Teacher’s and Doctors should not get the same salary because doctors have to put a lot into their schooling and what they are doing is way more difficult than what a teacher has to do.

4.      College is essential in today’s society because if someone does not have a college education you will probably end up with a job at Wal-mart.

5.      The children have a more difficult time with divorce than the parents do because the children do not have a choice or an opinion in the matter.

6.      Football is more of a dangerous sport than skydiving because the public hear’s about a lot more football accidents and injuries than you do skydiving injuries.

7.      Student who skips classes will fall behind in school, making it less likely for them to graduate. Students should not skip classes.

8.      Learning a foreign language is becoming more needed now that immigrants are choosing to immigrate more and more to the USA. More people need to learn a foreign language or else Americans will not be as likely to get a certain job or communicate with certain immigrants.

9.      Racism is not really a big issue at BLHS because students do not hear about it really in the halls or in their everyday group of friends.

10.  Cell phones are becoming an essential accessory in today’s society, everyone should own one. It is a way of communicating and a way of calling for any emergencies.

11.  Drug dealers should not be selling drugs. They deserve to have the death penalty for harming themselves, our family’s, our friends, and sometimes ourselves.

12.  Tourism is a good way for people to see the real America; some countries think that America is such a bad place. If America had more terrorist maybe we wouldn’t have quite as many enemies.

13.  Spanking children can be very effective, parent’s should not spank them for every little thing but when it’s something bigger a little spank with your hand on their bum couldn’t hurt.

14.  People have the right to lie about certain things, such as the little things. No, they should not lie to cops or the authority but telling someone they do not look bad that day, even if they do, does not hurt anybody. In fact it helps boost that person’s confidence, making it a positive result instead of a bad. So lying is not always such a bad thing.

15.  People who strive for success are people that want something and will put their mind to it. Anybody can do anything if they put their minds to it and really try. Just believe in yourselves.

16.  Teachers should do more hands on activities and involve students more with lessons. Teachers who hand out lots of homework are the classes that are less likely to be a student’s favorite.

17.  Money is what everybody wants; it creates bad and good. Most things revolve around money making it so people will work harder towards the good. It can also be a very bad thing; it is what causes bank robberies and even house robberies. If we did not have money then maybe we would not have as many crimes going on.

18.  People should find the one they love and stick with that person. People should not skip around from marriage to marriage. It is not gods plan or what he wants.

19.  Parents with more children should not have to pay as much taxes. Many parents with more children already have enough to pay with food, clothing, shelter, etc. Parents with more children are more likely to not have as much money. So, taxes for them should be lowered.

20.  Students who have a 3.5 or higher should get free college. Those are the students who actually work towards their grades and deserve to be at college.

    i couldn’t agree more!

I disagree with some points but I’ll try to be brief. Thesis 11 , I think death penalty is too harsh. Many drug dealers harm others this is true, but they rely on someone’s interest on drugs. Distributing drugs is harmful ,but the person buying it should know better. The issue is not that simple, there are many factors involved in addiction. There are many types of drug dealers, even those innocent ones that fall into a trap and are forced to distribute drugs for others.

Then there is Thesis 14. I could understand being shy or uncomfortable telling the truth to a person you don’t know. If that person is your friend you shouldn’t tell them ” you look great” when they don’t. Perhaps you should tell them something like ” You look fine but I think this will look better this way.” (You’ll still be feeding her a little lie when you say he/she looks fine ) You’ll help them correct their appearance, even if the correction only is adding lip-gloss to their chapped lips. You get me? You can help instead of telling them a little “big” lie.

    Nicely done with wise sentiment.

  • rutherfranc on Jan 10, 2009

Article 3 – one point for teachers: Doctors have to go thru teachers before they can become doctors. Another point: Doctors cure, teachers prevents

Article 12 – Did it really said “more terrorist”? scary..

Nice to know you are concerned about these facts..

I agree with morgana and rutherfranc, and if I might add…number three seems to be contradicted by number four…and most of the others are remedied by education.

Thought provoking piece. Also, I do recognize this is your piece and your opinion…I respect that.

    Have a blessed day!

This is definitely thought-provoking! You have some insightful comments. In #17, yes, money does come along with some problems, but I think the real issue is the love of money (greed). If we didn’t use money, I guess we could barter and trade, but then wouldn’t people still be tempted to accumulate more stuff to trade so they could get more things? Besides, it’s easier to carry a few dollars in a wallet rather than a few, oh, sheep, for example. :-)
