I do not try to fit in, I am not a crowd winner. I do not try to follow and I do not want you to lead. Just accept me for who I am and not what you want me to be.

They say I’m different because I’m brown sugar with a twist of spice.

I can be sweet to the core or ice to the touch.

My great grandma loved me just for who I am.

They say I’m different because I beat at my own drum.

I can’t help it I was born from an African American Woman & raised with a Native American Indian Family.

Every morning’ I’d kneel to pray but I am not a silent talker.

They say I’m different because I’m brown sugar with a twist of spice.

And when I kick my legs, I got my own rhythm going on.

My great grandpa was a drinker who ran around a lot.
He’d be carrying his moonshine in a bottle and smiling as he skipped along.

And that’s why they say I’m different
And that’s why they say I’m strange
And that’s why they say I’m crazy

I got a twist in my hips and I got a poem on my lips.

I got a twist in my hips and I got a smile on my face.

Cannot take my thunder because you scared of the rain?

Cannot take my sweetie, baby doll and you’re the apple of my life because your ears are dirty.

I can be sweet like candy and hard as rocks.

My great grandma loved me just for who I am

They say I’m different because I can hear my own melody.

I can’t help it I was raised to speak my mind.

Every night I’d kneel to pray but I am not a push over.

They say I’m different because I’m brown sugar with twist of spice.

And when I step out in this mean old world, I smile and laugh to myself because I am still alive.

My dads said don’t be a quitter just keep on walking.

He’d be carrying a pen and paper with him to write his poetry.

I don’t want to be like anyone else, I don’t care about following the crowd.

I don’t want to like anyone else; I don’t care about being the in person.

I just happy with who I am, you may talk about me, you may threw stones, you might dislike my voice, you may dislike my face, you may dislike my ways, but you did not make me and you  will not break me.

I am different I am me.
