1. Tears Help Our Vision
Tears function as a natural eyeball and eyelid lubricant and prevent dehydration of various mucous membranes in this region. We will not be able to literally see without sufficient lubrication. Dry eye is extremely uncomfortable and long term problems could block out eye sight altogether.
2. Tears Kill Bacteria
Tears natural clean our vision lenses. Our own antibacterial and antiviral agents work for us in fighting off all the germs we encounter everyday during regular activities like using the computer, vacuuming the house, driving to work or being in an air conditioned room. Tears contain lysozyme, a fluid that can kill 90 percent of all bacteria on the eye lense and works especially well while we are asleep.
3. Tears Remove Toxic Byproducts
“William H. Frey II, a biochemist at the University of Minnesota, proposed that people feel “better” after crying, due to the elimination of hormones associated with stress, specifically adrenocorticotropic hormone” ( via Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crying). He calls this sort of crying “emotional tears” because they are formed due to distress or grief, which according to Frey, contained more toxic byproducts than irritation tears like those expelled from peeling an onion
Something to think about when you feel like crying, just do it! Your eyes will be healthier over a good crying session.
