What are the three great evils in life? Many people have different opinions based on the issue. So, let us find out what they are.
Have you ever wondered about the evils in life? Such as the woes of social injustices life throws at all of us. For we know that life is an emotional roller coaster which can deliver many curve balls. Concerning life in general, I ask this question: “What are the three great evils an individual can commit?” Now, every person has different opinion based on this issue. At any rate, however; I think Pride (Ego-driven), Greed (such as the love of money), that in itself can cause major problems, and Covetousness (a strong desire of what another person has). These, I think, are three of the greatest evils a person can commit in life. I will discuss how Pride, Greed and Covetousness can be the three great evils.
First of all, I am going to talk about Pride. I know what you are thinking; so try not to cringe. For I am not talking about the pride such as in great achievements or accomplishments. Nevertheless, the type of pride I will discuss is the “ego-driven” pride. And this type of pride is an abomination, my friend. Further, this pride in its most simple definition is a exaggerated opinion of yourself. Moreover, this is the ego-driven pride that even the Lord God Almighty hates and it offends Him. For example, let’s say Johnny is the smartest 12 year-old boy in Junior High School. Johnny walks into the school cafeteria and sees his fellow classmates, sitting at the lunch table. Now, Johnny decides to make an exaggerated opinion. It goes like this: “Hey guys! I’m the best there is, and nobody can beat me in any of my classes.” Now, here is my question. How would you as a individual respond to the comment Johnny made?
Second of all, just as I mentioned about pride; now I am going to talk about Greed. Now, we know that wealth in itself is not evil; but greed is. Greed is not just evil; but it also is a gripping spirit which saps the life of its owner(s). Metaphorically, greed is like a leech that sucks the blood of the host (human, animal and the like). Like I said a moment ago, there is nothing wrong concerning wealth itself. For it is greed you must avoid. So then, is it right to obtain wealth? Of course, for it is God who gives power to inherit wealth. Many people believe the reason General Motors went downhill because the owner was greedy for gain. Or it might be more than just that.
Lastly, just as Pride and Greed are two of three great evils. I want to speak on Covetousness. You know, there is nothing wrong in wanting something; but when that desire goes to the extreme, then it’s covetousness. For instance, I myself, want to drive and own a nice car. I am currently working on getting my Driver’s License at the age of 26. Nevertheless, I wished I obtained my Driver’s License about a month ago; but things went in delay. Now, should I give up the ambition to drive and own a vehicle? Certainly not! Nonetheless, I know in my conscience, that it would be utterly wrong to lease and drive a car without a license. For I almost did this; but thank the Lord I did not go this route. In other words, I committed covetousness and God forgave me when I confessed this sin.
