Writers block is a very real problem which will affect all writers at some point. I list some top tips on working through writers block.
Top tips on curing writers block!
Writers block is a very real condition, if you write on a regular basis it will happen to you at some point and that is a fact. You maybe staring at a blank computer screen or staring at the printing keys on a type writer or indeed holding a pen and staring at a blank piece of paper. In your mind, you the writer knows you must produce some work, and you cannot write a word however hard you try! in my experience it mainly happens to a writer when they are producing works of fiction.
If you write a non fiction news based articles you are helped by world news, the world does unfold in the strangest of ways there is no shortage of subject material. Writing fiction is hard because the ideas come from within. I write historical fiction and science fiction interspersed with fiction on any subject. I read a very helpful guide to writing short stories or flash fiction if you prefer that title.
The book was entitled “Cracking the short story market” written by the talented author Lian Pattison. In the book it does cover writers block, some schools of thought recommend leaving your assignment and going for a walk or some exercise that is physical rather than mental to alleviate the block.
Other successful authors recommend the opposite, they recommend not giving into writers block and begin to train your mind to push on through regardless. They also recommend continuing with an idea to completion even if you are not pleased with the piece of work? This apparently is training your mind to be disciplined, by not allowing one’s self to give in.
There was one tip that I have used and trust me it does work. If you are stuck for a short story idea get 5 or 10 pieces of equal sized paper and write down one object you can see from where you are sitting on each piece of paper, then put them in a hat and mix them up. Pick out one piece of paper and begin your flash fiction with the object.
