Thoughts about thoughts.

My thoughts travel on trains in my mind.  Light airy thoughts travel on sky-trains.  Trains that travel above the rail on a magnetic cushion.  Never staying in one place for long.  Swiftly darting from place to place, from station to station, and stop to stop.  Alighting briefly, looking, then leaving for the next place.

Heavy weighty thoughts travel on freight trains.  Some going cross-country across the plains, making routine stops, staying as long as needed to unload one thought just to take on another.  Once loaded continue on to the next destination.  Other freight trains travel ponderously like a steam locomotive traveling up a steep grade.  Chugging away, chugging away working hard to get up the slope.  Finally, finally reaching the top and then a faster trip down,  being careful not to become derailed.

Ordinary every day thoughts take the subways and passenger trains.  Sometimes getting jammed at the stations, sometimes not.  They travel to and fro doing everyday work, keeping the place running.  Blending into the background, not surprising anyone, leading boring lives so that others can soar.

Occasionally, a train of thought will become derailed.  This can tie things up for minutes, to hours, or days.  Depending on the train.  Airy thoughts just get back on, passenger thoughts get jammed until they can be straightened out, freight thoughts can take the longest to clear up.  Working, working until everything is back on track.

But, if a train carrying toxic thoughts gets derailed, things can be bad.  Thoughts that were on the way out, poisonous thoughts, evil thoughts.  These thoughts have to be handled carefully so as not to spread their contamination throughout the landscape and kill the environment.  Left to themselves, these thoughts would spread like a drop of black ink in a glass of water.  Tendrils oozing everywhere getting everywhere if not contained and cleaned up.

But, most often, thoughts travel without incident, getting where they are going safely.  Some faster, some slower but getting there andt thence to the ether.
