Trial Summary
“Paul Baumer, you are on trial for war crimes and multiple counts of murder in the first degree.” So the judge will begin the trial. Multiple witnesses will come up and testify they saw Paul not only shoot the enemy, but assist with some comrades’ with fatal wounds their slow, torturous, inevitable deaths. The evidence will be undeniable. Paul will admit to both crimes with sorrow for his fallen comrades but not regret. He will emotionally tell the judge this. The Judge will acquit him of the war crimes and murder charges of the enemy stating he was acting under orders and in self defense. He will be given a lesser charge, manslaughter, for the murder of the others. The Judge will state all though he understands Paul’s reasoning, Paul is not a trained doctor and therefore cannot judge the severity of his fellow soldiers wounds and robbed them of their chance and life to be saved by a professional medical doctor. Paul will be sentenced to several years in prison. Paul will get out early for good behavior and on account of his awards for heroic service during the war. He will also be treated well in prison because of his efforts in the war.
