"it’s the call and text unlimited 24/7 that make’s people increase their friends and their network of friends. For some it is very useful, but for some it is very USELESS"
Texting is a part of the Filipino Culture, 9 out of 10 is an avid subscribers of texts and calls promos. Whether they find it useful or not they still subscribe, it’s more than just a hobby–it’s a normal Filipino lifestyle. Regardless of his/her job and his/her income, he/she would trade anything just to have a cellphone. It’s like, a cellphone is something you can’t live without if you had been living having one.
“I know a friend who sleep and eat with her cellphone on one hand. It’s a common scenario during night time before she go to sleep, every morning or rather first thing in the morning, she grabs her phone and check her inboxes for messages she haven’t read while she was asleep, and then leave it for a moment while she go to the bathroom and brush her teeth, before she leaves her room it’s a must that she brought her cellphone with her and started typing “goodmorning” and automatically send it to a “group list” and then check if there is any reply while having her breakfast. (She start and ends her day with her cellphone and without any prayer. How awful. )“
As far as my observation is concerned, unlimited texting and unlimited calls from different network provider has been a nationwide phenomena here in the Philippines. From Smart Buddy, Talk and text, Globe, TM, Sun Cellular, Red Mobile and other’s if i missed to mention any. When i was a student, i find it very helpful specially when im bored. It’s an escape from boredom. i am a TM (touch mobile) subsbriber since i first had a cellular phone and with just 10php i am subscribed to unlimited texting for 24 hours, that means i got 24 hours (if possible) of happiness texting my friends, my relatives, my schoolmates, my teachers and textmate/s and boyfriend/s if there is for just a very small amount. Even grade school student acan afford to avail call and text services even everyday without hurting their daily allowances.
When i started working, i then realized that texting is tragically a waste of time and effort. I sleep late and wake up early just for the sake of making use of my unlimited texting and none of those texts (from the thousands i received and sent) helped me to be a better person. I later realized that, this world is a continous evolution and everything is upgrading every now and then and it’s up for me to go with it or get stucked up somewhere just to watch it pass me by.
When the internet is now my most used services, i no longer subscribe to unlimited call and text but i just make use of my phone for important texts and calls. I lived without it when i was young and innocent, therefore i’ll survive not a being a part of the texting society. From being a lifestyle, this call and text unlimited is upgrading a person’s life to ADDICTION. (I also have a friend who cant sleep and eat if she doesn’t have load to register for unlimited texting. She’s all day deppressed just because she couldn’t send anything from her mobile phone and for me that’s ridiculous. i find very unreasonable to spoil 12-16hours of your day unhappy just because no sms was sent for that day…)
Everything is up to date and i feel a little left behind.
