A top site to visit in Charleston, South Carolina. Going South for vacation?
Ever dream of going back in time? Let’s say to the seventeenth century. If you ever visit South Carolina, be sure to swing down to the city rich in historical history, Charleston. Yes, I said it and it wasn’t in Gullah or Geechee, Charleston’s native slang twang. I was born there and even as a little girl, I loved going to visit Charles Towne Landing.
Charles Towne Landing is a place you can go alone or with your family. It is a state historical park. It has eighty acres of magnificent gardens. In the gardens my favorite is the huge one hundred year old oak trees with spanish moss hanging from them. You definitely will not need an umbrella under these guys. And if you love nature there are plenty of trails to walk or ride a bike on.
Rich in post-colonial history Charles Town Landing has a replica trading ship from the seventeenth century. On this ship and all over the park you will see the park’s employees dressed like they would in an old war movie. If you want they’ll even let you make homemade candles.
For the young at heart, they have an animal forest. They have a huge fenced in bird arena that is something to definitely take a look at. They also have an interactive museum. The kids will love this. hey didn’t have that when I was a “youngin”.
The best time to go visit this beautiful city and of course Charles Towne Landing is in the spring or fall. Being from the South, I know “ya’ll” Yankees can’t take the heat. Plus, you’ll avoid tourist season. Heck, if it’s good enough for the governor to call it his Charleston residence…then it must be quite deserving of it’s title. If your thinking of proposing or getting married, it’s a to die for location. “Ya’ll” come check it out now, “yaw” hear!
