WAGES OF SIN
Mr. Mayowa lived with his two wives and his four children in Oluyokunin Oyo state.His first wife ,Sewa, was loyal to him and she gaved birth to a boy named Ope.The second wife Bunmi was rude and disrespect .
Ope was a brilliant, hardworking and honest boy .He was very popular in Oluyokun for his respect and kindness to elders. Whenever his father sent him to the community center ,he became the centre of attraction and talk of the time.
Anytime Ope saw an elder coming with an heavy load , he always assist the person to take the load home, he also help in running errands for people and they always give him some gift.
Bunmi’s mother on the other hand took to their mother’s behavior ,they are of no use to the community and most people hate them and they always pray to god not to give them that kind of children.
Bunmi was jealous of Sewa because of the kind gestures people do to her, so she decided to get rid of Sewa.She prepared a poisoned food and gave it to Sewa,but due to Sewa’s loyalty to her husband she gave the food to Mayowa who gulped the food hungrily. After four hours, all attempt to revive Mayowa was not fruitful so he gave up the ghost.
Sewa was very sad over the death of are husband ,but Bunmi on the other hand only shed crocodile tears and people began to suspect that she is responsible for Mayowa’s death.
On the fifth day after the burial ,Bunmi went to the village chief and told him to share the property of her husband between her and Sewa.
The village chief was very sad and he told Bunmi that she has no human feeling “Your husband only died five days ago and now you are clamoring for share of his property’ the village chief said angrily.
‘’Don’t shout at me, If you are not ready to share the property between I and Sewa, know what to do, you brat’’ replied Bunmi.’’you called me a brat? May the ancestors of this land never be pleased with you. Replied the chief. ‘You are not talking to me you are talking to your family’’Bunmi said sharply and walked out of the chief.
