I wrote this my senior year of high school. It was my first attempt at lateral thinking.

Warning Waves:

Water surrounds all seven continents and is a method of transportation. Water has shaped my life with several waves. I’ve always been afraid of it. Fearing what’s beneath and knowing that any moment I also could be there. I lost a very close cousin due to a water accident involving a bath tub. The salty tears I have cried for him and many others are of the ocean. I’ve never stepped in the salt waters, but I am connected to them. Water is calm then dangerous then calm again. When I’m driving the Jet Ski I make the waves. Other times water will stir violent storms, like Hurricane Katrina. I am a storm survivor. A tornado touched down in Clio in ninety eight. “Years over time the water eroded the ground and there Mother Earth lies” (Turbeville). Then there was the divorce that split my family in 2001. Mysterious water sloshes back and forth, back and forth ever so slowly inside our eighty three Lincoln. It is no longer driven. The water got the best of it.

“The Great Lakes recede and their greatness dries up” (Turbeville). It is of the same water I drink and use to dowse our summer campfires. “The water is low again, flowing stretching, beneath the bridge” (Turbeville). I explore the wonders of the water today, still swimming on top. I spend time with both my parents, still scheduled. Water erodes happiness and success, but helps resources grow. “Sometimes people cause the changes. Sometimes people can prevent them, but similar to time itself, it is inevitable. It is then, that people must adapt to the environment” (Turbeville). One change makes a wave.
