The Philippines is now having a huge issue regarding how to control the overgrowth of the population of water hyacinth locally known as " water lily "

Aside from the usual beauty that it gives in the surroundings, water hyacinth is now a big problem that should be resolved immediately. The local authorities of the Philippines are now brain storming as on how to get rid of this plants that are blocking the flow of water in some rivers along the cities of Metro Manila. This is now the root cause of the recent flooding in Cotabato City. Also, these plants coming in huge volumes flowing in the mainstreams have destroyed the living of some fishermen.  The fishes have escaped from their fishing pens after being ruined by hectares of water hyacinths.

The local authorities are currently removing these water lilies from shore to avoid them from blocking the water system. Especially now that the Philippines is now encountering a typhoon named ” Falcon “, this would be a great concern in flooded areas. Also, these water hyacinth is not good in the fishing industry. If these plants are growing tremendously overtime, they become a threat to the fishes since they are also sharing with the oxygen in the water. Water hyacinth is believe to be a sign that the water is very polluted and for this toxins to overflow from these lakes and rivers is not really good for the welfare of the people.
