Just because the swine flu reached its pandemic status and the days of my Seasonal Pass are invalid doesn’t mean I’m not going to Walt Disney World, outside the parks. The parks are too fudging crowded anyway.

As many of us heard yesterday, the WHO elevated the pandemic level to 6, the highest echelon of how the swine flu internationally is spread. Together with the cruddy economy, the situation prompted many people to take staycations, or naycations, and I’m sure that I’m one of those people. The situations do not let my guard down, though, because Walt Disney World is just an hour away from my home in Brandon! Oh, but the parks have to wait until August 19 per my Seasonal Pass blackout days.

If it were not for that supple pass, more reliable and much cheaper than the Annual Pass, I would have faced 200-minute waits on Splash Mountain, or wait for lunch with a growling stomach at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. July, as the guidebooks and travel bloggers say, is one of the busiest months of the year, and this is the month when virtually all the children America are out of school and flocking over to this fantasy-brimming place in Central Florida. Just think of all the out-of-towners in one park, especially on the Fourth of July!

The out-of-school pupils who are traveling out-of-state to rub shoulders with Pooh, Piglet, Mr. Incredible, and Goofy, as well as many Floridians, are just the half of the crowd troubles one anticipates in the hot, sticky summer months. In the Southern Hemisphere, especially in Brazil, people there experience winter months, thus prompting them to travel north. This leads to the blossoming of tour groups swarming the park like schools of fish wearing uniformly, often bright-colored T-shirts. Good thing my mother and I did not made the same mistake like we did in July 1995, otherwise the Brazilian tour groups would get the best of us someday soon, at least in this season.

So what should a Disneyphile do at Disney at this time of year? Today is my birthday, and I’ll be off to the resort – Downtown Disney, that is – and I’ll be dining out at T-Rex, the newest addition to the shopping and dining area! The review will be out soon, I promise!
