We say never forget and a lot of us haven’t. Sadly though, some have……actually many have. Many have forgotten the day that tore our hearts from us yet strangely pulled us together. I saw an America on that day and the weeks and months following with a renewed love of our country. There were no races…we were all Americans. There were no political parties….we were all Americans. American Flags flew from every house on every street in towns across America for months as we became one in our grief…our shock…and our Love of our Country!
We all felt the same feeling, on that day, when we watched those planes crash into the Twin Towers and as we saw them come crashing down.We all felt the same feelings as we waited to see who came home that day…and who didn’t. We all know someone this has affected. All the good working people in the buildings that day. All the fireman and First responders, our heroes, that sacrificed their lives that day in a fateful attempt to save their countrymen and women. All the the children orphaned that day. All those searching for their loved ones, friends and family for days, weeks, months and yes, even years later. And all the funerals following this attack on America….day after day….after day. I went to some of those funerals..how could I not! Inside my heart was crying for their families. I needed to be there to show my respect and my thanks to one of my heroes.
I will NEVER forget….this has touched our lives as no other catastrophic event that I can remember! I will always remember those that died that day, that were maimed that day…physically and emotionally ruined. I will ALWAYS remember the children that were orphaned that day….and even those that were never found that day. And let’s not forget those that are still dying from there days working in the recovery effort.
I saw an America that was “ONE” that day and for a time following. Where has it gone. Is THAT what it takes to bring us all together. If that is so then THAT may be the biggest tragedy of all.
