I hate what some writers do to make a cheap cent.

By writing this article, I am demonstrating a hypocrisy I’m trying to write against. Essentially, I am in a pardox of ethics. As much as I want to put this message out there, it sickens me the way it must be done. You’ll understand soon enough.

I’m not an extremely experienced Triond writer, but I’m not completely new either. I’ve enjoyed the days of sitting down at my computer, writing, and managing the the fifty-two cents that I have earned. It grows, but I’m not here for the money. When I heard about a website like Triond, I wanted to try it out. I even got a Hubspace, but I must say I like the format of Triond better. When I heard I was going to get paid, I looked at it as a nice side bonus. I didn’t expect much, and I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I starting browsing the various Triond websites and found a pattern that I must say makes me ashamed to be affiliated.

First of all, this is in no way targetting any writers of Triond. This is targetting the darkness that compels them to do these things.

People are writing articles about Triond so they can increase their readership. “Okay,” you’re saying. “So what? They’re making money, they know what they’re doing.” But what bothers me is the fact that they claim in the descriptions and titles that they will “help you increase earnings” and contain “tips on how to be more successful like me.” Well, the stuff usually in those articles is the same stuff in the Triond suggestion page. And sometimes those people who say they are successful just have a little over ten articles published and not such a wide fan-base. It feels to me like the integrity of the user is questioned when such articles come into play.

I’m not saying I have any right to say these things. I’m not so successful. I don’t know the secrets to success on Triond. I don’t care that much about finding it out, either. Especially if being successful means becoming a person who doesn’t really care about their readers and only cares about the money.

There are specific sections of the Triond forum that contain discussions on the exact topics that are in these articles! If you want to know how to increase your readership and revenue, go to these forums, or google it. Seriously, the writers are duping the readers into opening these articles so they themselves can increase readership and revenue. Every time I see an article with supposed “Triond secrets,” I sigh and continue to scroll down.

It does get frustrating at times. Just don’t give up there’s good people here, when you really look. Great friends can help each other. Like it!

A good article and definitely – yes – there are quite a number of people who write articles that say absolutely nothing new that cannot already be found in the Triond guides themselves. And, yes, some people write them in the hopes of duping people in to thinking they will earn more by clicking on their article.

    However…

Having said that, it doesn’t stop a huge amount of people emailing (almost round robin style) requests to well known authors (myself included) asking them how to go about writing articles and to make money. SO, many authors have taken to putting this advice in to articles and can then refer people to them instead of repeating themselves ad infinitum.

The best, the likes of Athlyn Green and Nelson Doyle, have genuine community spiritedness and want to help people develop as online authors. Believe me, anything with the word Triond in the title has a restricted readership of a few thousand at the very most – those who have heard of the site, are members (perhaps) of the site and who write for it. They really do not pay very much.

So, while I do agree that there are some out there that try to ‘abuse’ the name of Triond, there are others who write these articles out of a real desire to help people.

Personally, though, I have never and will never write anything about Triond as an article. Firstly, because it has been done very well by the likes of the above. Secondly, because I really, really couldn’t be bothered! :-) )

Finally, sure, don’t aplogise before the (anticipated) criticism! Writers should never do that – before or after! (lol!)

Thanks so much for that different look on it, RJ Evans. I feel a little better now :) There is apparently some dignity in the human heart.

Well done. I wrote one article about Triond, so I guess I fall under you unbrella. LOL! However it was about my anniversary and the community. I did not get into anything about making more money. I agree with RJ. First enough good people do that, and second I have no interest in it.
Remember, some people are here to just make money. I have come to accept that fact over the past 16 months. Like you, I write because I love to write. I had no illuisons whatsoever that I would make a lot of money here. My sole purpose was to build a fanbase, network with other writers, make some frieneds and build a resume. With those things in mind, it has served my purpose. It is also hopefully a stepping stone as I work on my first novel and other pieces that I submit to web magazines and print magazines. Because as we know, that\’s where the REAL money is! Oh yeah….RJ is a good man, and he is 100% correct. Never apologize for what you write.

Enjoyed your dissertation. I’ll stick to phony stories from home and alligator tales.

I like this piece. It reminds me of a quote I read once. “Better to write for yourself and have no audience, than to write for an audience and have no self.”
