I hate what some writers do to make a cheap cent.

But it’s not just articles about Triond. It’s the entire concept. The other day, I saw an article where the title was something about “Don’t click this.” The writer was obviously new to Triond and didn’t know that the viewer would see the description under the title. The description read something like this: “Aha! This was a social experiement, and since you clicked it, I proved my point.” I laughed because his “experiment” was thwarted by the description in his article.

Yes, the point of getting readership and revenue is by making catchy and attractive titles on interesting topics that apply to the reader. But write something that doesn’t put the reader below you. Don’t “talk down” to the reader- the reader is ALWAYS smarter. They will see things in your work that you didn’t even see. And don’t treat them like you know more or you are better than them- we’re all equal, especially on this social network.

And write something that’s actually not about the site you’re currently in. I mean, if people continue to do this, the next thing you know, the whole site will be filled with articles ABOUT Triond, and not articles for actual Triond viewers.

This entails my dilemma- my paradox. By writing this article, putting “Triond” in the title, discussing Triond, and leading you to wonder what I was talking about in the first paragraph, I duped you. I compromised what could have been a great internet friendship and ruined my integrity as a writer.

I’m sorry. But there was no other way to get this out there to you. I hope this is read and understood. And actually, I hope a few people pass by its title and scoff at it, not clicking on the link.

Writers, write for readers. Not for the quick cent you’ll get for the next ten views.

Thanks for your time, and again, I’m sorry. If you would like to accept my apology, or even decline it, please send me an email and I will try my best to win you back.

It does get frustrating at times. Just don’t give up there’s good people here, when you really look. Great friends can help each other. Like it!

A good article and definitely – yes – there are quite a number of people who write articles that say absolutely nothing new that cannot already be found in the Triond guides themselves. And, yes, some people write them in the hopes of duping people in to thinking they will earn more by clicking on their article.

    However…

Having said that, it doesn’t stop a huge amount of people emailing (almost round robin style) requests to well known authors (myself included) asking them how to go about writing articles and to make money. SO, many authors have taken to putting this advice in to articles and can then refer people to them instead of repeating themselves ad infinitum.

The best, the likes of Athlyn Green and Nelson Doyle, have genuine community spiritedness and want to help people develop as online authors. Believe me, anything with the word Triond in the title has a restricted readership of a few thousand at the very most – those who have heard of the site, are members (perhaps) of the site and who write for it. They really do not pay very much.

So, while I do agree that there are some out there that try to ‘abuse’ the name of Triond, there are others who write these articles out of a real desire to help people.

Personally, though, I have never and will never write anything about Triond as an article. Firstly, because it has been done very well by the likes of the above. Secondly, because I really, really couldn’t be bothered! :-) )

Finally, sure, don’t aplogise before the (anticipated) criticism! Writers should never do that – before or after! (lol!)

Thanks so much for that different look on it, RJ Evans. I feel a little better now :) There is apparently some dignity in the human heart.

Well done. I wrote one article about Triond, so I guess I fall under you unbrella. LOL! However it was about my anniversary and the community. I did not get into anything about making more money. I agree with RJ. First enough good people do that, and second I have no interest in it.
Remember, some people are here to just make money. I have come to accept that fact over the past 16 months. Like you, I write because I love to write. I had no illuisons whatsoever that I would make a lot of money here. My sole purpose was to build a fanbase, network with other writers, make some frieneds and build a resume. With those things in mind, it has served my purpose. It is also hopefully a stepping stone as I work on my first novel and other pieces that I submit to web magazines and print magazines. Because as we know, that\’s where the REAL money is! Oh yeah….RJ is a good man, and he is 100% correct. Never apologize for what you write.

Enjoyed your dissertation. I’ll stick to phony stories from home and alligator tales.

I like this piece. It reminds me of a quote I read once. “Better to write for yourself and have no audience, than to write for an audience and have no self.”
