What is a hero? In my eyes, a hero is someone who is a role model and exceeds an expectation of a person. Usually, people think a hero is someone who is physically strong. However, I think a hero is someone who is strong at heart. A hero carries good morals and is not afraid to take an extra step or to take a risk. I consider my grandmother as my present day hero because of the values she holds. She is very respectful and a strong woman. She represents what responsibility, good morals, and confidence should be. 

            My grandmother has been through good times and bad times. As she grew up, she was not as wealthy and lacked many resources. My grandmother was also the oldest sibling; therefore she had the responsibility to look after her brother and sisters and to set a good example from them. I respect her for this, because a hero always carries responsibilities. My great grandparents chose who my grandmother was going to marry, when she was very young. She respected and trusted her parent’s decision and married my grandfather. Not only was my grandmother respectful, loyal, and responsible, but she took the risk of raising ten children. As a young woman, she had many responsibilities and had many priorities.  She also encountered the pain and death of her two children. While raising a family, my grandmother also owned a farm. She dedicated some of her time to help my grandfather take care of the farm. As my grandmother grew older, she sacrificed her time to her family so that it would not fall apart. All of my grandmother’s children soon got married and had children of their own. Even though my grandmother had a lot of free time on her hand after her children got married, she still came to America to start a new life. She also helped raise my sister, my brother, and I when we were younger. I believe that my grandmother is also my hero because she shows the strength of a woman. She shows it by being confident in what she does. My grandmother made many decisions when raising her own children, and confidence in making these decisions played a role in her self. My grandmother also learned from her mistakes. Not all heroes are perfect and learning from mistakes helps to increase experience in a person. She also did not hesitate to dedicate her time to do what she wanted to do. She took all the opportunities that were given to her. She showed me that life is all about taking a chance and opening doors, because with out doing that, one will never succeed. She was strong and positive about taking the path she knew was right. My grandmother believed in what she did and she achieved many goals. Even though she is much older now and not physically strong, she is still very strong at heart.
