An article defining what "I" is.

The traits that differentiate me from other human beings in the world and make me my own person are my laziness towards school work, my politeness to others around me, and the fact that people can depend on me to be there when they need me to.

I am a person that is very lazy when it comes to school work. I tend to put off projects given to me earlier in the week until the last minute. This procrastinating leaves me to work as hard as I can to finish the project that I have put off, and usually prevents me from getting a high grade. However I am the same way with small tests and quizzes. I will find out that I have a test later in the week, but I put off the studying usually until the night before or even until the actual date of the test. Sometimes I do not even study at all and I will try to “wing it” which is a very risky move and is not a good idea. I try to stop my procrastinating, but I am easily distracted by friends, family, or even the television. However if I know that I need to bring up my mark, or there is a major test coming up, I tend to work harder in order to achieve the higher grade.

I think of myself as a very polite person and I also think of myself as considerate. My parents taught me at a young age that being polite will get you further in life. When I am eating out or even at home I use manners when asking for or ordering food. I make sure that I thank other people that help me out or simply hold the door open for me. I also hold the door open for others whether it is at school or any other public building to simply be a nice person and I do not expect them to say “thank you” but it is always satisfying to hear it. I also believe in karma and the fact that “If you do good to others, good things will happen to you”, and I have lived by that saying since I was a young boy.

As a person on this earth I have commitments, obligations and people that depend on me. In order to ensure that I do not let down these people, I am a very dependable person. As a member of a hockey team my teammates depend on me to show up and be able to play as a member of the team. If I were to not show up or simply quit hockey completely, my team would be without one player as well as the other players that are absent, and have a disadvantage in future games. Also my teammates depend on me to be by their side if they are getting roughed up, and I need to be there to stand up for them. When I am a part of a group project for school, and I am assigned a specific job that needs to be done for a certain time I know my group depends on me to fully complete the task. I know that I can not only complete it on time, but ensure that I work my hardest on the task since I know that my group is depending on me to do so. Finally my parents and my dogs depend on me to feed my dogs and walk them so they do not starve when I am at home or have an accident on the floor.

In conclusion my laziness, politeness and the fact that others can depend on me all make me my own person. I tend to procrastinate when assigned small assignments, I am polite to others without expecting for anything in return, and people can depend on me to help them when they need it most.
