How original are you?

Have you ever wondered what originality is?  After all there are some people that say “There’s nothing new under the Sun.”  However I also know you’ve heard people say “Wow, what an original idea”

So what makes something original?  If you haven’t heard of it, it’s original to you.  While others would say that it is old or rehashed. However isn’t it still original to the person that hasn’t heard of it?

Doesn’t that make it original? What if only two people have heard of it or seen it or read it before and one hundred haven’t?  Does that mean it’s not original or it is?

And just because someone has heard of it do they have to let everyone know about it?  Do they have to say “I saw that before” or “I’ve heard of the method from somewhere else”?

Who cares really, if it’s new to someone, it’s new to more than enough people and there’s nothing wrong with bringing it up.

An original thought is great however how do you even know that it’s original? Maybe someone else thought of it who you don’t even know so you have no  way of knowing they thought of it.

Does it have to be new to be original?  Can it be something old that the group of individuals who are seeing it are seeing it for the first time?

How original are you?
