My point of view on the meaning/function of dreams.

Dreams are usually significant information for us, putting light on what has happened in our lives, or what is happening and providing insights about our future. Sigmund Freud once called dreams the “royal road to . . . the unconscious”. Some scientists believe that dreams have certain fixed meanings. For example if someone dreams about oranges, it means good health and if they dream about onions, it means hard work and so on. Modern psychologists claim that dreams are nothing more than images resulting from random electrical activity in the brain during the night. Nightmares occur during REM sleep. Some people have nightmares for a number of reasons. It can be due to traumatic events in life, because of stress and tension, or even because of certain medications or and also the withdrawal of some medicines. The general theme of nightmares is of being helpless or powerless in the face of danger or destruction. Nightmares are not always considered as indications of psychological problems.
