I’m just asking myself, you will be the judge if I have answered my own question at the end of this article.

The Physical World- The physical world is another aspect of life that makes us tick. Have you watched the movie, “Deep Impact”, “Twister”, “Dante’s Peak”, “The Day After Tomorrow” or any other stories in a book implying that the world we live in is unstable and ticking by itself? Perhaps if you do, then there’s really ample time to celebrate for we never know when a great earthquake will shake the ground, when a great tidal wave  would rush to shore, when a volcano would erupt and when a great typhoon or drought would consume the land with us in it. The minutes, hours, days, months, years pass us by as our great Mother Earth spins at its orbit and everything seem to be in place. But every now and then at certain points of our planet something tragic happens. History told us that in 79 A.D. Mt. Vesuvius erupted in Italy claiming an estimated 25,000 deaths. In 1556, an earthquake occurred in Shaanxi, China and took an estimated 830,000 lives. In 1815, Mt. Tambora in Indonesia erupted and resulted to around 92,000 deaths. In 1876-1878 drought affected India and a great famine ensued claiming lives estimated at 25,000,000. In 1931, floods hit again China claiming an estimated 2,000,000-4,000,000 lives. In 1970, a tropical cyclone hit Bangladesh with an estimated 200,000-500,000 deaths. In 2003, a heatwave hit Europe claiming an estimated 37, 451 lives. In 2004, an Indian Ocean Earthquake destroyed buildings and caused a tsunami that affected surrounding shorelines in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Maldives with an estimated 229,866 casualties. So we have our concept of time, caught up in a physical body subjected to live in the physical world as moody as could be based from above cited natural calamities and everything else ticks.

The Consciousness- This is basically what makes us tick, the concept of time would be useless if we are not aware of it. The knowledge that we are alive in a physical body would be useless if one is insane or out of his mind. The awareness that we are functioning as a human being with a physical body subjected to the passing of time living in a constantly changing physical environment is negligible if we have our physical incapacity to think as a normal human being. As I would very well expect, anyone will resent my thoughts on this writing about what makes life tick. A businessman (or most of us) would strongly believe money makes life tick for indeed it does in the actual sense, in the same way that a newscaster would take major social issues, a doctor would side with a patient, a fisherman would take fish, a government official would take politics, a boxer would stand with any major match, and so on depending on one’s line of trade or inclinations (however worst it is). I respect your opinions and as I end this writing we are all entitled to which side we believe in. Just bear with me in accepting that the clock is ticking and every one of us is privileged to sustain life while our hearts keep on its beat as we have our feet planted on the grounds of a spinning planet which ticks by herself as we have that awareness taking our time figuring what really makes life tick.

You’ve written this very passionately with some very good points. What makes my life tick? Funny thing, you didn’t mentioned yours. But for me, its about enjoying life to the fullest. Work hard then enjoy its benefit, to love and to be loved back, to cry and to laugh. Life is just that. For me as long as you know how to be content of all the things given to you, life can be easier. Then when the time comes, definitely I won’t have any regret. But not today, can I request 30 yrs more lol :)

Awareness of time is a human trait and the need to do as much as possible before out time runs out. My life is made up of doing what I feel is my duty and enjoying the things I love.

Interesting question. Do YOU feel like you answered it? I\’m not sure the answer can be put into a single essay. Good read.

Oh, and I just read through some of the comments. Lostash is an idiot.

  • Brenda Nelson on Sep 28, 2009

    that was deep…. blue.

good thoughts and you made a profound point.
Also Lostash is NOT an idiot.

I am amused. Thanks for all the comments. Whatever really make us tick, let us try our best not to go nuclear, or else we might explode. I would be the most idiot if I started a chain reaction that allowed you all to hear you inner “ticks” in varied, disconcerting ways. I love you all and peace to the world.

I am glad to have been invited to read this well composed write with the inner most of you coming out to all who read this. Importance of reviewing the past can sometimes help the future if one wants a change. The depth of your thoughts provokes much thought from me. TX

Visions like these make everything worthwhile

Some thoughtful observations you made here. However, if I took you into a space ship and hovered next to the sun, away from the cycle of the spinning earth and its illusion of time due to day light and night shadows, would there then be days or only one continuous eternal day?
