What To Do Once You’ve Received Your New WC Tokay

Congratulations!
You now have wild caught tokay gecko!
There are a few things you should do once you have your little guy/girl settled in:

This toe was damaged by another tokay gecko. Shed was stuck on the bottom of it. This is the end result after a month of rehabilitation. It may never look perfect, but it is healed.
1. Check for wounds and external parasites. I suggest using Repti Wound-Healing Aid on any cuts or abrasions. You can also use polysporin but be sure to use the kind without any sort of painkiller, as painkillers have drastically different effects on reptiles.

This is an example of a healed wound on my tokay gecko. Repti Wound-Healing Aid was used and thus effective.
2. Get a fecal done on your pet. Your vet may suggest a panacur/flagyl treatment.
3. Hydrate! Once you start giving the tokay medicine it will need to get more water, as any medicine will tend to dehydrate your gecko. You may notice that the tokay is pooping a little more than normal, this is one of the effects of the medication.
4. Feed it and heat it. At first, only offer some food, if you overfeed your gecko you may cause more harm than good. Once your gecko is starting to gain some weight, it is fine to offer more food to start the weight gain. As a rule of thumb, never offer food wider than the tokay’s head as it may cause choking.
5. Enjoy your rehabilitated tokay gecko!
