This is an article of love, faith, hard work and happy endings. It is the story of a young woman’s struggles to help her husband.
When Do I Get My Happy Ending?
Sometimes it seems like life throws you a lot of curve balls. The past two years have been very hard on us, physically, financially, and every other ‘ly’. Between physical problems and the recession the last two years have been especially hard on my husband is in his efforts in his efforts to secure employment. Never mind that he has 40 years of experience to offer.
After months of searching, he secured a position with a registry service. They promised him at least 30 hours a week. After three months, he would also receive full benefits. After three months, he asked about his benefits and was told that since he was only working 10 to 15 hours a week he didn’t qualify for any benefits. He reminded them, that was all the hours they had been giving him. But they were adamant. So he started job hunting again
I became his secretary, updated his resume and posted it all over the Internet. I also answered his calls and his e-mail. He accepted a position in a small clinic that was to be full-time and permanent. After two weeks, they cut him back to four days a week. Two more weeks went by, and they cut him back to three days. Another two weeks went by, and they cut him back to two days. He left.
His next position was with a really good clinic. They liked him. He liked them. The pay was adequate – Actually better than adequate. He was happy, really happy, for the first time in a long time. He was hired as an independent, which meant he paid his own taxes, malpractice, and all that stuff. It was great.
Then, because Medicare would not pay the clinic, they had to close. When they were forced to close, they owed him more than half a month’s pay. I felt so bad for his patients at the clinic and the people who owned it. My husband said they were the best, kindest, most caring people for whom he’d ever worked.
Now he is once again seeking employment and I will once again be his good secretary. I will once again, upgrade his resume, put it all over the Internet, answer his calls, answer his e-mails and do everything I can to help get a position somewhere.
