Egalitarian or Social Stigma?

It is a fascinating phenomenon. When we have the ability to achieve something that is beyond what is conventionally accepted, we get scared. We get scared of the responsibility that comes with it, and scared that failures and mistakes will no longer pass off as bad luck but must be acknowledged.

The problem with setting the bar too high is you need to keep it there. You must be on top of the game AT ALL TIMES, which can be exhausting.

As a result, some people develop an aversion to putting effort in work. It is easier to be mediocre, to be among the average crowd. Why some of us hesitate when a great opportunity comes is hard to explain. Possibly there is an egalitarian reason for this social phenomenon.

This makes me think that perhaps Doctor Octavius was right when he warned Peter Parker, “With great power comes greater responsibility”. Who wants to be Spiderman anyway when you can be a pizza delivery boy?

It’s great to achieve excellence but it’s better if your efforts are rewarded, or at least appreciated:->

Octavius had it right on the dot. However, there are just some people who are intimidated by the responsibility, that they tend to just settle for what is good, rather than opting to go for what is “better” – even when they can.
