A Reflection about Living with Imperfections.

As life falls upon on our individual selves many will turn up asking at the depths of despair and misery as if we were involved in a game of life where we deserve a fair play. The economic crisis, the rising costs of living, unemployment problems, climate changes, health problems, politics and business practices are but few issues which would often leave us down and beaten.

Back home (Philippines) before every evening lottery draw on the TV (everyday) there would be a video replay of each pre-draw procedures where each balls were being weighed, on a scale implying that balls used in the draw should be of the same weight. So there’s no human intervention on what happens next except the operator who presses the button culminating the drawing of balls for each draw. But of course as it often happens, we don’t really know what unfolds behind closed doors.

Our concept of fair play if applied in our situation in life would simply mean that like balls used in the  lottery draw, we should be of the same traits as participants of this grand game we call life. The same faces, the same height, weight, reasoning ability, social status, sex if rules should be really strict. An amusing point for consideration which would be rather philosophical in the sense that without the spirit of competition, everybody would turn up winners or losers because everything is equal. But where in the world will you find a game where all participants are winners? Would it be rather dull and absurd having everything you wanted, as you wished for it at the moment when you willed for it to happen? Will people in that “fair world” surely be happy? I suppose not. Routine life is sure monotonous and boring. So when you think of this present life of yours as unfair, think again. What life would be like if it’s fair? You wouldn’t like seeing your article published in the hot content list as everybody else don’t you? As for me I could stand having been rejected by Triond countless times on the grounds of wrong spelling (which would be impossible since I won spelling contests early as in first grade) or short, meaningless content.  It does remind me to accept my fate living in an unfair world.

indeed fairness would be boring and predictable. Life isnt fair – sometimes you win sometimes not. deal with it.

Not always, it depends on situation.

Life is neither fair or unfair. It is what it is. It is only how we view what happens on a personal level that dictates what WE think.

That is reality for you. You either roll with the punches or you fight it – try to change it. The choice is yours. Only you decide. Thought-provoking piece, Will.

“Life is divine chaos. Embrace it. Forgrive yourself. Breathe. And enjoy the ride…” (Solbeam) Win or Lose, you are a gifted writer.

You do have some very deep thoughts and concepts and know how to effectively write them.Life would indeed be a bore if it was fair but as human beings I think we have all come to accept both defeats and successes in life, fair and unfair.Just the road of life which sometimes leads us astray. Excellent write as always Will, a very enjoyable read!

Of course as human beings I forgot to include the basic premise that if we are on the winning side, life is fair but otherwise it is unfair. Thank you for all your comments.

you can’t do something about Life’s impartiality, You only have to live with it.

I think you’re right….it would be boring and too predictable if everything were completely fair – and everything good was handed to you on a silver platter.

‘No matter what you do, no matter how stupid, dumb or damaging you judge it to be, there is a lesson to be learned from it. No matter what happens to you, no matter how unfair, inequitable or wrong, there’s something you can take from the situation and use for your advancement.’ ~ Peter McWilliams……..Deep Blue..life is to be lived and this was a fabulous write :-)

If we go through life thinking that everything is fair and we will always wind up on a bed of roses, we are fooling ourselves. In the example of the lottery, I’m sure the winners believe it was fair. :)

thought provoking! life would definitely be dull w/o competition. You could always run spell checker and add the word to dictionary if it doesn’t recognize it. I have always been runner up on Spelling Bees for as long as I can remember and even when word is spelled correctly, that glitch always comes out.

Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good

When you set up your lottery Deep Blue, consider that you might give everyone a gift, just make it one big important winner and then other graduated less expensive winners so that everyone ends up with some kind of win….indeed all would be winners!

  • Francois Hagnere on Nov 18, 2009

I do confirm that this world is quite unfair! I totally agree. You have another I liked it, my friend. We are on the same wavelength!
