A look at why people feel the need to criticize other people’s beliefs and values because they are different from theire own.

  1. Fear. People are afraid of what they don’t know. It is much easy to criticize other things than try to understand and appreciate them. Example: Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Catholics are not Christians. Many people say this because they don’t know about these religions. If you talk to members of these organisations you’ll see that all three of them are Christians.
  2. Selfishness. People by nature are selfish, always wanting what is best for themselves before others. If they see you are on to something good they will put it down to stop you getting it. Example: You ask someone should I buy a house and they’ll say no, renting is cheaper. Truth is buying a house is the best option in the long term as you end up with security and equity whereas renting, you end up with nothing. The person will say no as they don’t have a house of their own.
  3. Rumour. People tend to believe bad rumours rather than good rumours, and hardly anyone will actually do research and find the truth of the subject. Example: McDonalds Restaurants make there milk shakes out of pig fat. I have heard this many times but if you ask them about it and look at the ingredients list, where is the pig fat?
  4. Change. Many people are lazy and find anything too hard even if it will help you. Example: it’s too hard to give up smoking. They don’t care if the change helps them out, they just don’t want to make the effort so will criticize instead.

People need to spend more time on worthwhile projects instead of wasting energy putting other people down. I think our world would be a much nicer place if people did that. That’s my opinion now prove me right or wrong!
