Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful.

Lance, my second child isn’t perfect. At five months he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. How severe? That remains to be judged when he turns three. He is spastic, has very less head control and at one year and 5 months he still couldn’t walk.

At first, I was full of questions,… why my son? why me? Life was a mess back then. I’ve been to depression. I cried often and sleep a lot. Sleeping was my way of escape from the harsh truths in life.

But when I learned to accept the situation without questions at all, I was  relieved from the twinge and burden of life. This acceptance was made possible through my family’s support. They never left us when Alex, my husband, and I could not decide rationally on what actions to take with regards to baby Lance’s medication, therapy and other special needs. I am lucky that I belong to a family who is always ready to share the littlest thing each member has.

Thanks also to Vilma, baby Lance’s nanny. She’s heaven sent to us. The moment Lance was born, she has taken care of him so gently and so lovingly.

Now, I never perceive my baby Lance as a burden. He is God’s wonderful gift to us. He is the source of laughter to our residence. He inspires us to become better individuals.

Baby Lance has taught me to be more humble and to appreciate the littlest things that I have. He inspires me to be strong and be not like a cry baby when problems arise. He motivates me to share no matter how little, for others are ready to share their blessings too for his medication and special needs.

I used to worry too much but not anymore. With Lance I learned to appreciate life and surrender everything to God. If others may have refused to help him but not my  family and especially not the Almighty Father.

Lance, as an author says “to the world you may be one person, but to one person you are  the world.” Mama loves you so much!

my heart jumps for joy as he eats banana for the first time
