Difficulty != importance.
I think people get confused between hard-to-do things, and actual cool things. Just because something is hard to do or that few people can do something, doesn’t mean its useful to humanity and be filmed and uploaded to YouTube. There are thousands of videos of people doing various activities that, while momentarily amusing, have absolutely no productive value.
i.e., videos have been uploaded in epidemic proportions called freerunning, street running and “parkour.” Playing some sort of audio in the background, usually the melodramatic song “Lose Yourself” by Eminem, these videos are nothing more than people running around in public areas and practicing flips. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.
Case in point, cup stacking. These videos have changed my life, but for the better? I think I made the world stupider by watching a few of those videos. I was literally amazed that there was actually an organization for cup stacking, that there are people out there who call themselves professional cup stackers. As if it takes the slight of hand to “professionally” stack cups.
I could really go on and on about ridiculously retarded activities, but no point in beating a dead horse.
Cliff Notes:
Amount of difficulty does not equal importance.
