A short story about two people, one of them makes a terrible mistake, could it cost them their marriage? Is Divorce the only action that remains? Good questions.

He’d gone back to see the Barmaid and they’d had sex again, in the toilet like the last time, but this time, he didn’t enjoy it so much. He wondered why, that Barmaid was one hell of a woman, and a fantastic lover. He didn’t go back again, he chose another bar to drink from, and he was getting to be a regular at the new bar, it was far better than sitting home alone, watching boring Television. He was never the type of person who watched much television, and these reality shows were driving him nuts, he thought to himself, these people must be nuts to do the things they do on those programs.

The next day he met with his Lawyer friend, and the Lawyer explained that Sherry was filing for Divorce, and that the law stated that the two people involved had to meet at least once before proceedings in a Divorce court could begin. Frank thought that’s what that letter meant he just needed his friend to assure him of what would happen at the proceeding. He retained his Lawyer friend right away, no sense in going without a lawyer he’d probably say something stupid, and get himself in more trouble than he was already in.

He had to be honest with himself. He never thought that Sherry would seek a divorce. She wasn’t the type, her parents constantly preached against divorces so he couldn’t quite figure out what Sherry was up to. Maybe her parents didn’t know he thought. Maybe he should call them to see if they knew. Turned out, they didn’t know Sherry had filed for divorce, but they assured Frank they would speak to her as soon as possible.

That very afternoon, Sherry received a call from her father. He asked her if she was seeking a Divorce? Yes Dad, I am she told him, I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you but I didn’t want a lecture on divorce, and I knew that’s exactly what you and mom would do, you’d lecture me until I dropped the proceedings. How did you find out Sherry asked her dad. Frank called us he father told her, we would never have known otherwise. Sherry asked her dad why Frank had called. He dad told her that he was curious to see if we knew, he thanked me for my time and hung up, he father told her. Sherry thought to herself damn Frank, he had to go and get my parents involved, another nail in his coffin she thought.
