A short story about two people, one of them makes a terrible mistake, could it cost them their marriage? Is Divorce the only action that remains? Good questions.
It truly saddens me that we have to be here Sherry told them, but Frank seems to think it’s all me, that I’m making too much out of this, and I think he needs Professional help.
For the first time, Frank spoke up, yes Sherry you are right, I do need help, and I’m looking at getting it as soon as possible. I don’t want you to divorce me he told her, tears streaming down his face, I just don’t think I can make it without you in my life. For the first time in Frank’s life he was about to loose someone very precious to him, his wife Sherry, and there was no way he was going to do that without a fight, and if that meant going to see a Professional then that’s what he would do.
Sherry looked at Frank in disbelief. She asked him why he didn’t tell her that sooner maybe they wouldn’t be here at all. Frank had no excuse other than to say he was so sorry for his mistake, and if given another chance he’d show her he could change.
The Lawyers stepped in at this time and both of them asked Sherry what she wanted to do? Did she want them to go ahead with the divorce proceedings, or put them on hold until Frank saw a Professional?
Sherry looked at Frank and knew in her heart that while he had hurt her very badly, there was every chance she could forgive him as long as he was willing to seek help for his terribly personality, and thoughts that everyone else was wrong except him.
She coughed. There seemed to be a lump in the back of her throat. I’ll put things on hold for now she told them, but it’s very conditional. Frank must go to see a Professional and I want to be with him to see what progress is being made. If I am happy that Frank seems to be getting better, we can call off these proceedings, but only on this condition. Another thing though, I won’t be moving back in with Frank, nor do I want to see him every other day until I can feel comfortable around him once again.
Frank’s Lawyer asked Frank if what Sherry had said was good enough for him? Did he want to add anything he asked? No, Frank told them, everything Sherry said will be fine. Sherry excused herself, and left the room. Frank didn’t even have a chance to thank her. She left that quickly. He knew she’d softened her stance on the Divorce, but he also knew that if he didn’t get help, she’d drop him like he was hot. She made that very clear.
