Inspired by Sweeney Todd and Jack the Ripper.
Masked strangers all around her, she pushed throught the dancing, laughing, drinking crowd. Not knowing who is who, she searches, relying on her instinct. Scared, alone, on a mission. She grabs a glass from a passing waiter and drinks…and drinks. She can’t walk straight due to a mixture of the wine and the people furiously twirling about her. But no one seems to notice her. Could it all be a dream?
When it all comes to fright…
She seemed so out of place…so unnoticed. She staggered out into the dark outside. Why had she even gone to that ridiculous masquerade at all? She walked down the empty street, trying to keep on her feet. She heard something behind her. It startled her, but she didn’t turn around. She merely ignored it and kept wobbling down the road.
When things go bump in the night…
She heard it again. Subtly, she peeked over her left shoulder to see nothing there. Was she just imagining it? She must have been. Trying to keep her balance, but still quickly arrive home she picked up speed a bit. There was the sound behind her again. To her right she saw a sudden flicker of light. What was that? Instead of head to her house she started toward the light to set whatever was following her off gaurd.
You can find me in the light
The noise behind her sounded closer. She grabbed at the sides of her dress and began to trot. The light wasn’t too far off. She looked behind her again. This time she saw a man. Extremely frighted now, she took off. He picked up speed. Next thing she knew, she was being tackled to the ground. She screamed hoping someone would hear and come to help. The man on top of her was wearing a festive mask. He must have followed her when she left the party.
You can always find me in the light
She squeezed her eyes shut. When she opened her eyes, the man was gone. She was no longer laying in the middle of a dark stone street. She was now laying in a bright green pasture. The sun was shining bright and warming her cold skin. She felt a soft hand rub her arm. The beautiful boy….she knew his face, his touch. She remembered years ago before he was taken from her…
When it all comes to fright, when things go bump in the night, you can find me in the light…
